Well, quite frankly not a lot is happening in the veg garden at the moment and a lot needs to be done! The heavy snow and hard frosts have taken their toll this year so winter veg wise except for a few leeks, nothing much else has survived. The purple sprouting broccoli stalks are defiantly standing tall but sadly their shoots are drooping limply from the tops, their colourless soggy decaying leaves a stark reminder of the harsh winter.
All may look a bit dismal at the moment but the beauty of vegetable growing is that each year you get another chance to start afresh, to continually try to improve on the previous year. So, that's the plan! The beds need to be cleared and more mulch put on the paths then it's all set for another year of growing.
This weekend has been about planning, poring over seed catalogues, sorting out seeds and ordering new ones. And of course, thinking with anticipation about the dishes that will be created over the coming months ...
